ANGELA AMOROSO, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR - Angela Amoroso, Artistic Director and founder of SPAC, was a professional dancer and choreographer in New York. She has studied with some of the finest teachers in New York in all of the disciplines of Dance. Ballet with Wilson Morelli and at Joffrey Ballet; Jazz with Phil Black, Pepsi Bethel and Alvin Ailey; Modern with Martha Graham; Tap with Bob Audy and Phil Black. Her involvement with Community Theater on Long Island for both performance and choreography include Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof, Anything Goes, and West Side Story. Angela has also been a member of NYC’s “Dance Circle” Repertory Company where she has choreographed as well as performed. In 1982, Angela performed in the Equity Showcase of Jesus Christ Superstar in Manhattan. Her creative talents as a dancer and choreographer combined with her love for children, have made the Scripps Performing Arts Aademy a great success for the past 17 years.

MIAH NWOSU, ASSOCIATE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, BALLET MISTRESS- began seriously studying ballet at age eight and began her training in tap and jazz two years later.  Angela Amoroso and Miah first met at a Miramar Ranch Elementary After School Program.  That June she performed in her first production with the Scripps Performing Arts Company, "Earthkalah".

Miah trained at The Scripps Performing Arts Academy for seven years, primarily under Lili Griffith, former principal dancer of the Saddler's Wells Royal Ballet (now Birmingham Royal Ballet). In 2000, she continued her studies at City Ballet of San Diego under Steven and Betsy Wistrich in their pre-professional division. There she performed with their company in two seasons of Nutcrackers, their company premiere of "Don Quixote," and various other productions. In the summer of 2001, she trained intensively at The Ailey School in New York City. In 2002, she attended Fordham University in New York City, where she took classes at Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Center, nationally known professional dance studios.

Most recently, Miah performed locally with C. Anthony Cole and LaDiego Dance Theater, where she was also rehearsal coach and dancer representative for the company.

Miah annually choreographs the Company's performance of the Nutcracker and has successfully mounted classical and original productions including Earthkalah, Over the Rainbow, The Storyteller, Our Favorite Ballets, Ballet Does the Rat Pack and La Passion, La Danse, La Vie. She recently staged, set and rehearsed a highly successful production of Cinderella.

Miah has been teaching at The Scripps Performing Arts Academy since January 2003. She teaches classes in all levels of Ballet and oversees all Ballet Programs and the general artistic direction of the Academy.

KATHERINE BURTCH currently teaches Creative Dance and Ballet I with Tap Combination Classes.  She also works as a rehearsal assistant and choreographer for the Lower Division performances.

CRYSTAL FLOURNOY is a gaduate of the San Diego SCPA where she studied ballet, tap, jazz,singing and actting. Outside of school she trained at National Ballet,Stage 7,West coast Ballet,Educational cultural complex,and Mesa College.

She has acted as a performer,Choreographer and has taught various styles of dance for 19 years. Growing up,she participated in countless shows,conventions and industrial productions.

Crystal started singing and dancing in Musical Theatre shows at SD SCPA and expanded out to Starlight and Moonlght Theatre. Her favorites include "Guys and Dolls"(1988) at SCPA,"Dream Girls"(1989)at SCPA and then again in (2006)at Moonlight,"42nd Street"(1990)at SCPA,"Singing In The Rain"(1991)at starlight,and "Aida"(2007)at Starlight. She also was a dancer for the Gulls Girls,a dance/promotional squad for the San Diego Gulls Ice hockey Team. With the Gulls Girls, she has Danced on Universal pictures"Bring It On",MTV,a sitcom "18 Wheels Of  Justice"and NBA shoot out 2002 for sony Playstation.  With all of this the most important thing in her life is raising her 3 beautiful children.

SARAH HOGAN began her training at the age of 4 with Tap, Jazz and Ballet, and continued to perform and compete in the areas of Tap and Jazz through out her College years as a member of the UCSD Dance Team.  She studied Modern dance under the instruction of Jean Isaacs, Patricia Rincon, and Faith Jensen-Ismay, performing locally in such events as The Mostly Mozart Festival, Café Mojalet, Celebrate Dance Festival, The Encinitas Garden Festival, and three seasons of Trolley Dances.  She spent one year as a member of the Collette Harding Contemporary Dance Company, and one Semester as a member of the Gallaudet Dance Company in Washington D.C., choreographing and touring the nation with Deaf and hard of hearing dancers.

Sarah graduated from UCSD in 2004 with a Bachelors Degree in Human Development, and intensive studies of American Sign Language and Modern Dance.

Sarah has worked for a variety of local schools and dance studios, as a DHH literacy instructor, dance teacher, choreographer, long term substitute teacher, and studio artistic director.  She has been a member of the SPAA staff since 2007 as our Imagination Station teacher, and now as a teacher of Tap, Jazz, and Ballet.  She strives to instill a love of dance and non competitive performing in the heart of every child to walk through our doors.

NOELLE MARIE KERR has been performing on stage since the age of two and has been directing since the age of sixteen. Her favorite complex roles include Eponine (Les Miserables), Audrey (Little Shop of Horrors), and Harper (Angels in a America). She has founded several musical theatre programs in honor of her mother who instilled the love and performance of arts including Take Stage Ensemble at California State University, San Marcos. She enjoys producing, directing, and performing at every age level and has directed ages two to adults in shows in schools, churches, the community, CYT and universities. Noelle has a Bachelors of Arts in Visual and Performing Arts: Music and Theatre: Arts and Education from California State University, San Marcos. She continued at CSUSM for her Multiple Subjects: Arts Emphasized Credential Program when she was hired as the Choral Music Teacher and Musical Theatre Ensemble Director at Bird Rock Elementary. In addition to Music and Theatre Miss Noelle teaches private vocal lessons for all ages with a special emphasis on youth singers in an unconventional and beneficial way. Miss Noelle was recently one of thirty around the globe to be accepted into a Theatre in Education Performance and Directing Tour in Italy beginning this January 2010 but deferred the tour as to help SPAA explore and soar to new heights and is very excited about the places we will go!
